Rust fungi (Pucciniales) of Israel. III. The genus Puccinia

Abstract

This is the third and last paper in a series studying species diversity of rust fungi (Pucciniales) in Israel. The genus Puccinia is reviewed herein. Two species are described as new: P. biteliana sp. nov. on Crepis hierosolymitana and P. rayssiae sp. nov. on Onopordum cynarocephalum. Puccinia cenchri var. africana, P. gundeliae, P. jasmini, P. kuehnii, P. levis, P. pelargonii-zonalis, P. polygoni-amphibii, P. pulverulenta, and P. punctata are new for Israel. Allium phanerantherum is a new host for P. allii, Centaurea pallescens and Cirsium phyllocephalum for P. calcitrapae, Alopecurus utriculatus and Polypogon monspeliensis for P. coronata, Eryngium falcatum for P. eryngii, Crithopsis delileana for P. graminis, Rostraria smyrnacea for P. hordei, Gagea reticulata for P. pachyderma, Echinops gaillardotii for P. pulvinata, Brachypodium distachyum, Bromus diandrus, B. hispanicus, and B. lanceolatus for P. recondita, Scorzonera mollis for P. scorzonerae, and Poa trivialis for P. striiformis.
