Several tests showed a close interdependence between biomass and total number of point intercepts. This makes it possible to estimate plant biomass by point intercepts only, provided that the interdependence has been expressed previously by a regression equation. The method is particularly advantageous for studies which require non-destructive repeated sampling within the same plot e.g., studies of plant dynamics, herbivore grazing, net primary production.
