Abstract

This report deals with the phytocoenological classification of nine secondary grassland communities distributed in Cuba, including Isla de la Juventud (former Isla de Pinos). They are as follows: Hyparrhenietum rufae, Centrosemo-Panicetum maximi, Dichanthietum annulati, Chamaesyce-Cynodontetum dactyloni, Sporoboletum indici, Axonopetum compressi, Brachiario-Dactyloctenietum aegyptii, community with Eleusine indica and Hyptido-Paspaletum conjugati. Most of these communities have been developed on abandoned fertile places from the pioneer weed communities described by SAMEK (1971).
