Abstract

The author describes the most important ecological-vegetational characteristics of the Mirna River Valley in Istria. He mentions the main geomorphological and phytocoenological peculiarities of this valley on the basis of the latest results of his own and other investigations. He pays special attention to the description of Motovun Forest, i. e. to the littoral Pedunculate Oak/Hornbeam forest (Querco roboris-Carpinetum betuli submediterraneum Bert. 1968). Enclosed are tables with climatic and pedological data, a table of phytosociological relevés of Motovun Forest, a map of climazonal vegetation areas of Istrian peninsula, and a generalized map of the factual vegetation in the central part of the Mirna Valley.
