After describing the landscape units of the St-Laurence river near Cap-Rouge, the authors present a map of vegetation landscape units based on aerial photography. From symphytocoenological studies of Theurillat (1992a, b) in the Swiss Alps, the authors examine the notion of specialised landscape (in opposition to climatic landscape). The implications for ecological diversity as well as esthetic value are discussed.
