Siberian small-leaved-coniferous subnemoral forests in combination with tall grass meadows form a unique belt in the Altai and Sayan Mountains. This peculiar landscape with relict features of the pre-Pleistocene upper boundary of the thermophilous coniferous-broad-Ieaved forest belt has been preserved there because of special mesoclimatic conditions. The present Fagetalia communities of the upper boundary of the forest belt in the European mountain systems are the geographical analogues of these forests.
