Abstract

The orophilous vegetation of Corsica (from supramediterranean to alpine level) is analysed with the phytosociological method of Zurich-Montpellier school. A great number (42) of associations (30 of which are new) are described; the most part of them (36) are localized in Corsica or in Corsica and Sardinia; also thirteen endemic higher units are published. The vegetation series distinguished for each "climax" are placed in the vegetation levels, the discrimination of which has been made according to floristic criterions. The orophilous vegetation of Corsica, isolated since Miocene, is highly individualized but marked by the juxtaposition of holarctic and mediterranean floristic elements, like them of all submediterranean mountains.
