Abstract (German)
Die Entwicklung der Staatlichen Geologischen Dienste der Bundesrepublik Deutschland, ihre derzeitigen Aufgaben und Tätigkeiten und ihre Bedeutung für Staat und Gesellschaft sowie ihre Organisationsform und Stellung in der Staatsverwaltung werden dargestellt. Neben ihren originären Aufgaben wie geologische-, hydro-, ingenieur-, lagerstättengeologische, geochemische und geophysikalische sowie bodenkundliche Landesaufnahme und deren wissenschaftliche und wirtschaftliche Auswertung sind den Geologischen Diensten in jüngster Zeit wichtige neue Aufgaben im Rahmen von Umweltschutz und Daseinsvorsorge, von Raumordnung und Landesplanung zugewachsen. Daneben erfüllen sie eine bedeutende Funktion als Mittler zwischen Staat, Forschung, Lehre und Wirtschaft. Wie die Geowissenschaften im allgemeinen befinden sich auch die Geologischen Dienste in einem Umbruch.
Abstract
The development of the Geological Surveys of the Federal Republic of Germany, their current tasks and activities and their importance for the state and the society as well as their form of organization and their position in governmental administration are described. Beside their original tasks such as the geological, hydrogeological, geochemical, geophysical, geotechnical and pedological survey of the country and the prospection of its mineral deposits and the scientific and economic evaluation of the results, important new tasks have accrued to the Geological Surveys within the last period of time in connection with town and country planning, with environmental protection and provision for the existence of mankind. Beside these tasks they have an important function as mediators between the state, research, teaching and economy. As well as the geosciences in general also the Geological Surveys are in a state of evolution.
