Abstract (German)

Die braunkohlenführenden Schichtfolgen des Unter-Eozäns bei Helmstedt (SE-Niedersachsen) enthalten marine Horizonte, deren Glaukonite radiometrische Alter zwischen 46,0 ±1,1 und 52,8 ±1,4 Ma ergeben. Dieselben Proben lassen sich den Bereich der Zonen D 7a bis D 9na (Ypresium) gemäß der Dinoflagellaten-Zonierung von KÖTHE (1990) und COSTA & MANUM (1988) zuordnen. Die lithostrarigraphische Korrelation mittels GR-Logs erlaubt auch einen Vergleich mit der Zonierung nach Sporen und Pollen (PFLUG 1952, 1986; KRUTZSCH 1967, 1992). Die Profile im Gebiet von Helmstedt vermitteln somit zwischen den terrestrischen Schichtfolgen am Südrand des NW-deutschen Beckens und den marinen Folgen im Beckenzentrum.

Abstract

The lignite-bearing Early Eocene strata at Helmstedt (Lower Saxony) contain marine horizons, of which the glauconites have delivered K/Ar ages between 46.0 ± 1.1. and 52.8 ± 1.4 Ma. Paleontological datings based on dinoflagellate-cysts of the same samples are placed within the interval of the zones D 7a to D 9na (Ypresian) according to the schemes of KÖTHE (1990) and COSTA & MANUM (1988). These new stratigraphic data can also be compared to the palyno-stratigraphical data of PFLUG (1952, 1986) and KRUTZSCH (1967, 1992) by means of GR-Log correlation. The strata in the Helmstedt area form the transition between the marine Eocene sequences in the center and the terrestrial strata at the southern margin of the NW-German Basin.
