Abstract

Colour patterns in Late Carboniferous insects are briefly reviewed and are interpreted as cryptic (disruptive camouflage) and deimatic (frightening/startling). True mimicry (involving aposematic [warning] colours) is, however, absent and examples of pseudomimesis (false camouflage) in non-marine arthropods are discussed.

Abstract (German)

Farbmuster spätkarbonischer Insekten werden dargestellt und als kryptisch (disruptive Tarnung) und deimatisch (zur Überraschungs- bzw. Schreckwirkung) interpretiert. Echtes Mimikry (einschließlich aposematischer [Warn-]Farben) tritt jedoch nicht auf; Beispiele von Pseudomimesis bei nicht-marinen Arthropoden werden diskutiert.
