Collecting and publishing in Altenburg a model and exceptional case of a Saxonian-Thuringian science cooperation

Hö ser, Norbert

Abstract

The collections of the Museum for Natural Sciences in Altenburg prove that the communication was dominated by mineralogy, geology, and paleontology as far as it means a scientific one since 1817. That communication existed as acquirement of collections, publication of scientifical results, and as a scientifical literal exchange. It essentially took place between the Association for Natural Science Altenburg and some European personalities, institutions, and associations up to 1945. In the last four decennia the results of the studies on the "Tertiary and Quaternary geology of the Saale-Elbe Region of the Eastern Germany" from L. Eissmann and his group are published in the journals of the Museum for Natural Sciences in Altenburg.
