Central German Upper Eocene to Oligocene marine fauna an overview. With a new lithostratigraphical division of Lower Oligocene of the southern Leipzig region

Abstract

This paper provides an overlook concerning marine faunas of Priabonian to Chattian strata of Central Germany. The present knowledge is listed in a table. First (and provisional) results of actual work at some localities in Central Germany will be discussed. A newly discovered rocky shore fauna from the Mammendorf quarry west of Magdeburg is of special interest. Furthermore, a new proposal concerning the lithostratigraphy of Early Oligocene deposits south of Leipzig will be introduced.

Abstract (German)

Im Mittelpunkt der Arbeit steht eine aktuelle Übersicht über marine Faunen aus dem Priabonium bis Chattium Mitteldeutschlands. Der bisherige Kenntnisstand ist tabellarisch zusammengefasst, erweitert durch erste Informationen aus aktuell in Bearbeitung befindlichen Aufschlüssen. Eine besondere Rolle spielt dabei die Fauna eines Felslitorals vom Steinbruch Mammendorf westlich Magdeburg. Für die unteroligozäne Schichtenfolge des Leipziger Südraumes wird ein lithostratigrafisches Gliederungsmodell vorgeschlagen.
