Through reviews of scientific papers I became aware of a problem bearing potential of profound misunderstandings. This recently became evident during a field conference, when international participants appeared unable to follow explanations regarding the nature of certain deposits. I refer to the German term “Kolluvium” which frequently is translated into “colluvium”. This mislead translation may be found in a variety of international publications, despite of the reviewing process these papers had undergone.
