As an indirect result of political change in Eastern Europe, this volume, for a first time provides a review of the deposits and raw material potential of the Baltic Sea area, based on the results of recent geological studies in this region (as of 2004). Selected papers presented at the Baltic-7 confrence held in Kaliningrad, Russia present reviews on Paleozoic Deposits: Oil and Gas; Tertiary Deposits: Amber and Industrial Minerals; Quaternary Deposits: Sand and Gravel; Holocene Deposits: Iron and Manganese.

Als Folge der politischen Wende in Europa ist es zum ersten Mal möglich geworden, eine umfassende Zusammenschau der Lagerstätten und des Rohstoffpotentials des Ostseeraums auf Basis neuester wissenschaftlicher Forschungsergebnisse vorzulegen (Stand 2004).
