Bibliotheca Lichenologica - Instructions to Authors
Manuscripts are accepted preferably in English but also in German and French. They are printed from pdf-files submitted by the author. Manuscripts intended for publication in Bibliotheca Lichenologica should be submitted to the scientific editor.
If you are preparing a rather long manuscript, please contact the editor before completing the paper.
Manuscripts shall be reviewed before acceptance. Following acceptance for publication, a final manuscript (paper copy, single-sided, word-file and very important: pdf-file for printing) is again to be sent to the editor, he will forward it to the publisher,

With acceptance and publication of the manuscript the exclusive copyright (incl. right to reproduce and distribute the article incl. reprints and storage in electronic form) is transferred to the publisher.
Authors will receive 25 complimentary copies and may purchase additional copies at author’s discount of 50 %
from the publisher.
Correspondence on matters other than content of the manuscript should be sent to the publisher directly.
Formatting and preparation of manuscripts: Typing must be single-spaced with justified margins. If you work with a word-processor, use Times 12pt for the text. Please take into account the final printing area of 11 x 19 cm including page numbers. Your text, including figures, drawings and tables will be reduced to 80 %. Margins on pages (DIN A4 paper) are as follows (page numbers included): top margin 3 cm, bottom margin 4 cm left margin 3,5 cm, right margin 3,5 cm, that means printing area before reduction: 14 x 24 cm. We recommend to look into numbers of Bibliotheca Lichenologica published recently regarding layout of the papers and to send a few sample pages to the publisher before preparing the complete manuscript. The publisher may help you with detailed and specific instructions for preparing the pdf-file. Figures (diagrams, graphs and photographs) must be of high quality and suitable for reproduction without modification (resolution: 300 dpi for photographs, 900 dpi for line drawings).
All manuscripts must have a Table of Contents and an English Summary. Taxonomic works should contain an index to taxa. Latin names of taxa at the rank of genus and below should be typeset in italics; do not use underlining. Headings of chapters and sections are in boldface. In taxonomic treatments, homotypic synonyms should be grouped in single paragraphs together with the citation of the type specimen. Start typescripts with page 3; page numbers 1-2 are reserved for the title pages. Page numbers are typeset centered at the top of every page or at the left and right margin. Line drawings or photographs can (should) be placed within the text. If possible, please place several photographs together on one complete page. Plates are also possible. After reduction, all inscriptions and tables must be easily readable and should not be smaller than 2,5 mm (capital letter’s size).
Illustrations are to be numbered consecutively. The scale of illustrations is indicated directly on the illustration using scale bars. Figure captions are to appear below the illustration or on the opposite page. Captions of tables,
however, must be placed at the top of tables. Please write all citations in the same way and use for abbreviations
the World list of abbreviations, if possible.
Please also look for the recommendations for abbreviations of lichens authors according to Laundon (The Lichenologist, Vol. l, 1979, S. 1). A subject index should be added if you publish a large contribution and if it may be helpful for the readers.
