Abstract
For potable water the importance of optimal concentrations of fluorides, iodides and the admissible concentration of nitrates is considered. Special attention is paid to detergents, carcinogens, pesticides and to petrochemical products and phytotoxins as well, and to their origin and source of contamination. Also considered is the pathway of these substances through the biological food chain up to the human organism. Procedures for avoiding the contamination of water bodies and technological processes for elimination of the toxins are recommended.
