Abstract

12th International Congress of Anthropological and Ethnological Sciences Zagreb, Yugoslavia, July 24—31, 1988: During the 11th ICAES, which was held in Canada in 1983, the Permanent Council of the International Union of Anthropological and Ethnological Sciences (IUAES) elected Prof. Dr. Hubert Maver (Zagreb) as its President. He will serve in this capacity until 1988. At the same meeting, the decision was made to hold the 12th Congress in Yugoslavia, in Zagreb. The regular event of holding the largest scientific meeting of anthropologists and ethnologists from around the world is essential for a number of reasons. Through the Congresses, it is possible to extend and maintain international cooperation in communicating new scientific information and to develop new ideas for current education in the discipline. Furthermore, it is necessary to expand our understanding of practical application of the results of anthropological knowledge. For such reasons, the 12th Congress is being organized under the working title of “World Anthropology: Education, Research, and Application”. Innovative Trends in der Prähistorischen Anthropologie. Vom 27. Februar bis 1. März 1986 fand in Berlin eine Tagung über „Innovative Trends in der Prähistorischen Anthropologie“ statt. Die Tagung wurde organisiert vom Institut für Anthropologie der Universität Göttingen und dem Seminar für Ur- und Frühgeschichte der Freien Universität Berlin und durch Zuschüsse der Stiftung Volkswagenwerk und der Berliner Gesellschaft für Anthropologie, Ethnologie und Urgeschichte finanziert. Die geladenen 21 Teilnehmer aus 10 westeuropäischen Ländern und Ungarn vertraten unterschiedliche Arbeitsgbiete der Prähistorischen Anthropologie. Fachkollegen aus osteuropäischen Staaten (UdSSR, CSSR, Polen, DDR und Albanien) mußten aus terminlichen Gründen leider sämtlich absagen. Beobachtend nahmen auch 3 bundesdeutsche Prähistoriker teil. Neben den geladenen Teilnehmern gab es eine wechselnde Zahl in- und ausländischer Beobachter.
