Abstract
Four desmid taxa, encountered in The Netherlands, are described as new to science: Netrium pseudactinotaenium spec. nova, Tortitaenia closterioides spec. nova, Spirotaenia beijerinckii spec. nova and Cosrnarium ornatulum spec. nova. of Actinotaenium subsparsepunctatum (GRÖNBLAD) comb. et stat. nova zygospores are reported for the first time. In particular the two first-mentioned species are intriguing, because of their superficial resemblance to other, not related genera. The euplankter Cosmarium ornatulum is characteristic of eutrophic, alkaline water bodies, in contrast to the other species which originated from the benthos of oligotrophic, acideous moorland pools.
