Abstract
Thirty four Desmid taxa are discussed as being new or rare in Australia. Five taxa are reported as being new to science: Euastrum kolpodum sp. nov., Euastrum rosulatum sp. nov., Cosmarium asperum sp. nov., Cosmarium nivram sp. nov., Pleurotaenium parvum nov. comb. f. amplior f. nov. The zygospore of Cosmarium striolatum (Nägeli) W. Archer var. nordstedtii (Möbius) Willi Krieg. is here published for the first time. The study also produced a total of 14 new records for N.S.W. and 10 for Australia.
