Abstract
A survey is given of the genus Fottea Hind., to which, apart from the type species F. cylindrica Hind., and F. pyrenoidosa Broady, four new species are assigned: F. minuta Hind, F. montana Hind., F. stichococcoides Hind. and F. sphaeroides Hind. The position is discussed of the genus Fottea in the group of the simplest representatives of filamentous organisation within the system of green algae.
