Abstract
Tychonema bourrellyi represents a special planktic type of oscillatorialean cyanoprokaryote of North European lakes. Its ultrastructure, namely, the type, arrangement and keritomic organization of thylakoids, intrathylakoidal spaces and pseudovacuolization, is specific. AIl these characters are evidently connected with a special buoyancy strategy of the species. The gas vesicles are always lacking.
