Abstract
An electron microscopical investigation of samples from Lake Thingvallavatn, Iceland, yielded a total of 16 species of silica-scaled chrysophytes (Chrysophyceae and Synurophyceae) only two of which had previously been found in Iceland, the only other investigation by Bradley (1964) having resulted in 16 species, of which 14 were not refound. Details of their taxonomy, morphology and ecology are given and some biogeographical problems discussed.
