Abstract

RNDr Hanuš Ettl, PhD, one of the most outstanding recent phycologist, died on February 22, 1997, just half a year after completing the age of 65. The phycological world lost a prominent personality who contributed fundamentaly to the development of algal cytology and taxonomy. His field of interest covered nearly all groups of freshwater algae. It was, however, the green flagellates group remained at the very heart of his scientific interests.
