Abstract
A revised check-list of the 200 species of Belgian Trichoptera is presented, along with a synoptic table summarizing the distribution of each species in six regions of Low, Middle and High Belgium. The status of species added to or dropped from the present list is considered. Two major distribution patterns (those of species found throughout Belgium, and of species restricted to its southern parts) are discussed from a zoogeographical and ecological point of view. The interpretation of some running-water species as “glacial relicts” is shown to not necessarily contradict the Dinodal hypothesis. Ecological factors important in limiting the distribution of some species are briefly considered. The need for more knowledge of physical factors as well as possible interspecific competition is emphasized.
