Abstract
In May of this year a large crowd of friends, colleagues and former students celebrated the 80th birthday of Professor Hans-Joachim Elster, one of the two editors of the Archiv für Hydrobiologie. It was an enjoyable event, but the feast would have been more joyful had his old friend Professor Waldemar Ohle, the second editor, been able to participate. However, much to the regret of the whole limnological community, Professor Ohle suddenly passed away in September of 1987 shortly before he finished his 80th year.
