Abstract
The attractive or repellent effect of aldehydes, methanol and picric acid on Carabus problematicus Herbst 1784 was tested with a locomotion-compensator in laboratory experiments. Heptanal (0,1%), pentanal (0,1%), and formaldehyde (3%) proved to be attractants. Methanol (0,1%) also seems to be an attractant; picric acid solution proved to be neutral. The attractant effect of formaldehyde has been found not to remain constant during the year.
