Abstract

The Resin Bee Anthidiellum strigatum Panzer 1805 builds unsheltered brood-cells from resin. Each one has a tube directed downward. There are three phases of construction to be distinguished: a) building the main cell part by gathered resin crumbs, b) providing the cell with pollen and nectar, c) oviposition and closing the cell. During provision, the cell remains widely opened at the lower end. Then it is closed without adding further resin crumbs: The lower part is stretched into a narrow tube and this filled with small resin particles.
