Abstract

An analysis of parasitoid material reared from aphid mummies that were sampled from river flood debris at 3 model localities in the Rhineland area (F.R.G.) in 1955-1987 yielded 16 genera and 34 species of parasitoids. The relative abundance of parasitoids varied in individual samples, but many parasitoid species were repeatedly found in the same area in different years. Faunal analysis of the debris material documented a mixture of member species belonging to the holarctic forest tundra, European deciduous forest and Eurasian steppe elements. Mummies (Aphidius-type) as well as separate cocoons (Praon-type) that contained hibernating developmental stages of parasitoids were found rather resistant to the effects of water and mechanical injury in the course of spring floods.
