Abstract
The distribution of the boreo-montane species of Culicidae, genus Aedes, in the European Palearctic is discussed. Several authors record as the most common species above 1000 mNN: Aedes cataphylla Dyar 1916, A. pullatus Coquillett 1904, A. punctor Kirby 1837 and A. intrudens Dyar 1919. In our collection from the Ötztal Alps, the species found during one week in early VI were A. cataphylla, pullatus and punctor. One uncertain record of A. hexodontus Dyar 1916 should be verified by more thorough collecting during longer periods at elevations > 2000 mNN.
