Abstract

With 3 figures Abstract: The scientific, economic and technological isolation of Germany in the first half of the twentieth century contributed significantly to the fact that geology in Germany lost its connection in scientific competition. The inability to professorial self-criticism, combined with a dogmatic methodology where field data are subordinated to the global theories undermine all approaches for scientific self-healing. The person Hans Stille is a typical and tragic protagonist of this time.
