Abstract
Professor Gunnar Kullerud of Purdue University, an internationally renowned scientist who was the principal founder of the modern science of experimental sulfide petrology, passed away on Saturday, October 21, 1989 at the age of 67 years. He was, for 16 years (1954-1970), a member of the senior staff of the Geophysical Laboratory, Carnegie Institution of Washington in Washington, D.C., and he was also a visiting professor in the Department of Geological Sciences at Lehigh University from 1960 to 1969 when he became Chairman of the Department of Geosciences at Purdue University. When he died, he was Chairman of the Purdue University Faculty Senate.
