Abstract
One of the tasks of the IGCP project No. 354 "Economic super- accumulations of metals in the lithosphere" was to study the relationships between metal concentration and deep structure of the lithosphere. This topic was the primary subject of the first workshop of IGCP-354 at the U.S. Geological Survey in Reston, Virginia, in 1995, and has also been addressed at the next two workshops, held at the 30th IGC in Beijing, China in 1996, and at Puerto Ordaz in Venezuela in 1997. Most of the papers were published in Global Tectonics and Metallogeny (GTM), vol. 6, no. 2, 1997; vol. 6, no. 3&4, 1998; vol. 7, nos. 1 and 2 in 1999. The results of the first workshop were reviewed in Episodes of IUGS, vol. 19, nos. 1&2, 1996, and in Geology of Ore Deposits, vol. 38, no. 3, 1996. The second workshop was reviewed in Episodes, vol. 22, no. 1, 1999.
