Abstract

From Australia, four species of the lichen genus Pyxine are described as new: P. australiensis, P. desudans, P. elixii and P. plumea. Pyxine berteriana (Fée) Imsh. var. himalaica Awasthi is a synonym of P. cognata; P. isidiolenta Rogers of P. keralensis; P. linearis Rogers of P. farinosa; and P. neozelandica Dodge of Xanthoparmelia mougeotina. Pyxine albovirens, P. cognata and P. endochrysina are reported for Australia for the first time. Drawings of the chemical “fingerprints” of all new and some related species are given and a preliminary key to all hitherto known species of Pyxine in Australia is provided.
