Abstract
Parallel to the study on the mineral erniggliite, Tl2As2SnS6, and the related Tl-Sn-As-S system, an experimental investigation of the pseudoquaternary system Tl2S-Sb2S3-SnS2-SnS was performed under dry conditions with an attempt to identify phases and solid solution series in comparison to those in the related arsenic system. Two solid solution series were identified, showing mutual substitution of antimony and tin: TlSbSn2S6-TlSbSnS4 and TlSn4SbS6-Tl2Sn3Sb2S7. Their compositional ranges change with temperature. One additional stoichiometric compound TlSnSb5S9 was discovered during phase equilibria studies in the Tl2S-Sb2S3-SnS pseudoternary subsystem. Although the corresponding natural minerals have not been reported, the phases and phase relations were established between 400-300 °C, which are of geological relevance.
