Abstract
Stereochemical aspects of thallium that are of prime interest in earth sciences are discussed, in accordance with its predominant valence state in minerals mainly those of Tl(I). Attention is paid to the role of the lone electron pair and to short Tl-Tl contacts. Some minerals in which thallium substitutes for other elements in minor amounts are also dealt with.
