Abstract

Investigation in the system Ag-Ge-S at 400 °C revealed the stable existence of three ternary phases with characteristic colors: Ag4Ge4S9 (brick yellow), Ag13Ge10S24 (coffee brown) and the Ag5+xGe4-xS9 series (bile green). A detailed scanning of the pseudobinary Ag2S-GeS2 join across the ternary field from 200 °C up to 1000 °C confirmed three congruently melting compounds and four eutectics, all above 600 °C. A 400 °C ternary isotherm is given.
