Abstract
The lower range of Stringocephalus around the world is considered within the Givetian under the SDS (Subcommission on Devonian Stratigraphy) newly proposed definition of the Eifelian/Givetian boundary. However, in a measured section at Liujing (Guangxi, China), in which conodonts and silicified brachiopods occur in the same samples,Stringocephalus occurs in a shelf-edge fauna in beds that yield conodonts diagnostic of the lower part of the ensensis Zone of the uppermost Eifelian.
Résumé
La première occurrence de Stringocephalus a éte déterminée par la SDS (Sous-commission de la stratigraphie du Dévonien) dans le Givétien. Mais, dans une coupe levée en détail près de Liujing (province de Guangxi, Chine) qui a livré des conodontes et des brachiopodes silicifiées, on a trouvé Stringocephalus dans une faune du shelf marginal. D'après des conodontes, il y s'agit du sommet d'Eifélien (zone à Polygnathusxylus ensensis, partie inférieure)
Kurzfassung
Nach der Definition der Subcommission on Devonian Stratigraphy (SDS) soll Stringocephalus erst innerhalb des Givet einsetzen. Bei Liujing (Prov. Guangxi, China) wurde Stringocephalus jedoch bereits in einer aus der Schelfrand-Fazies stammenden Fauna, die neben verkieselten Brachiopoden auch Conondonten des unteren Teils der ensensis-Zone führt, gefunden. Dieser Abschnitt gehört bereits in die oberste Eifel-Stufe.
