Abstract
The Charapotó Formation is not a single stratigraphical unit as thought previously and is shown to embrace the upper member (Villingota) of the Tosagua Formation and the overlying Onzole Formation, where the locally developed Angostura Formation is absent. For this reason the Charapotó Formation should be dropped from the Ecuadorian nomenclature.
Abstract
La Formación Charapotó no es una sola unidad estratigráfica como se pensó previamente y se demuestra que comprende el miembro superior (Villingota) de la Formación Tosagua y la Formación Onzole suprayacente, donde la Formación Angostura, desarrollada localmente, está ausente. Por esta razón la Formación Charapotó estaría discontinuada en la nomenclatura ecuatoriana.
