Abstract
In approximately the driest part of the Washington steppe, a high ridge oriented at right angles to the prevailing winter winds accumulates snow just to the lee of the crest, in consequence of wind transfer of snow from the windward slope. Striking effects of this snowdrift on vegetation composition and soil properties are documented.
