Abstract
The vegetation of Qara Oasis can be distinguished into 3 main ecosystems: (a) outskirting desert, (b) waste lands, and (c) farmlands. The outskirting desert habitat includes 4 belts (zones) with different width, the waste lands comprise vast areas that formerly were cultivated but now are salinized or desertified, and the farmlands, mainly represented by date-palm groves and small limited areas of crop fields. 32 species are recorded constituting the flora of the area; most of which are cosmopolitan, palaeotropical and pantropical taxa. The record of Potamogeton trichoides represents the extreme western distribution of the plant in Egypt.
