Abstract
A continent-wide conspectus of higher-level vegetation units (Divisions) for Australia is proposed, using character genera as the defining taxon level. Some 26 Divisions have a geographical basis, and a further 11 are ecologically based. These Divisions are useful, when combined with environmental classifications, to provide a continental perspective on conservation "hot-spots".
