Kurzfassung
Zu der Eiszeit-Hypothese von Ewing und Donn werden einige kritische Bemerkungen gemacht (Zeitpunkt der Vereisung im Nordmeer, Vereisung Sibiriens, Einfluß der Island-Schwelle auf die Meeresströmungen). Der automatische Wechsel von Glazialen und Interglazialen scheint nicht zwingend begründet, ebensowenig das Einsetzen der Vereisungen mit dem Quartär und die Existenz präquartärer Vereisungen. Wertvoll ist aber, daß die Hypothese auf die Besonderheit der geographischen Situation im heutigen Polargebiet und deren meteorologische und klimatologische Konsequenzen hinweist.
Abstract
Some critical remarks on the theory of Ice Ages offered by M. Ewing and W. L. Donn (especially: the time of freezing of the Arctic Ocean, glaciation of Sibiria, influence of the Iceland sill on the interchange of water): It seems that neither the automatic change of glacial and interglacial times, nor the sudden beginning of the Quaternary glaciations, nor the presence of pre-Quaternary glaciations is proved convincingly. But it is a merit of the above mentioned theory to point out the very peculiar geographical situation in the recent North Polar region and their meteorological and climatological consequences.
