Kurzfassung
Innerhalb der unterdevonischen Vulkanitserien des Rothaargebirges (rechtsrheinisches Schiefergebirge) wurde nördlich der Ortschaft Albaum ein Vulkanitkomplex kartiert, der sich aus einer Abfolge von brecciösem Tuff, feinklastischer Zwischenlage und "welded tuff" zusammensetzt. In Anlehnung an rezente Beispiele wird dieser Vulkanitkomplex als Ignimbrit gedeutet. In der Umgebung des Ignimbrites vorkommende quarzitische Rotsedimente und Konglomerathorizonte deuten auf die Existenz einer Paläoschwellenregion in diesem Bereich hin.
Abstract
Mapping of the lower Devonian volcanics, which are exposed in the Rothaargebirge (Rhenish Massif), led to the discovery of a volcanic complex of unusual composition. This kind of volcanic complex consists of breccia tuff in its basal portion, overlain by fine clastics and succeeded by a welded tuff, which represents the uppermost part of the complex. According to recent examples this complex is interpreted as ignimbrite occurrence. Associated quartzitic red-beds as well as abundant conglomerate horizons point to the existence of a paleohigh in this area.
