Abstract

An international geomorphological symposium was held in Liège, Belgium, and Caen, France, early in July. The number attending varied but the official list of participants included sixty-six names, with representation from Argentina, Austria, Belgium, Canada, Czechoslovakia, France, Germany, Great Britain, Japan, Netherlands, Poland, Rumania, Sweden, and the United States. The impetus for the symposium was given by two commission meetings of the International Geographical Union, namely the Commission on Periglacial Morphology under the Chairmanship of Jan Dylik, and the Commission on Present Day Geomorphological Processes under the Chairmanship of Alfred Jahn. The first part of the symposium was held at the University of Liège from 1-5 July. It was excellently organized, jointly by Paul Macar, Vice Chairman of the Commission on Present Day Geomorphological Processes and Chairman of the University’s Department of Geology and Physical Geography, and by A. Pissart of the same Department.
