Abstract
Supplement No. 591, edited by Prof. K.-H. Pfeffer, marks the revival of the series of explanation and maps forming the International Atlas of Karst Phenomena. This series was begun in 1960 under the chairmanship of Professor Herbert Lehmann in collaboration with the Commission for Karst Phenomena of the International Geographical Union; three sheets were published in 1960 and 1964 - viz. Sierra de los Organos, Cuba; Bosco del Cansiglio, and Nord-Puerto Rico. As a result of the ending of the I.G.U. Commission in 1964 and later the death of Prof. Lehmann further sheets have not been published. At the meeting of the International Speleological Union at Bowling Green, Kentucky, in 1981, under the dynamic leadership of Prof. Jean Nicod and Prof. Lehmann’s pupil, Prof. K.-H. Pfeffer, a Commission of the International Karst Atlas was reconstituted within the Union International de Spéléologie.
