Abstract

When the British Geomorphological Research Group proposed to the International Geomorphology Community in 1985 that it was time to create an association and a regular conference, it could not have imagined the enthusiasm for the idea or the successful meetings it would generate. The Third Conference showed how much the Association has grown and demonstrated how valuable meetings can be. The impressive programme was preceded and followed by a magnificent choice of field trips. I can speak of the trip organized by Brian Luckman and Olav Slaymeker to the Coast Mountains of British Columbia and the Canadian Rockies. This was quite the most spectacular and best field trip I have ever been on - wonderful science, beautiful landscapes, excellent teaching, nice people, accomodation and food - in short, everything that attracts us to the subject. The organizers also provided plenty of opportunities to socialize, with peak flows of wine, beer and spirits measured in tens of cumecs.
