Kurzfassung
Es wurde das Skelett eines maturen, weiblichen Individuums untersucht, das archäologisch der merowingischen Reihengräberzivilisation zugeordnet werden kann. Die Analyse des Schädels erbrachte durchweg Merkmale, die für die Skaphokephalie charakteristisch sind. Weder am Schädel noch am postkranialen Skelett konnten pathologische Veränderungen beobachtet werden. Die Morphogenese der Skaphokephalie ist noch weitgehend ungeklärt. Sicher scheint jedoch zu sein, daß nicht allein mechanische Faktoren wie der verfrühte Verschluß der Sagittalnaht als Ursache für diese Dyskranie anzusehen sind.
Abstract
This work deals with the skeleton of a mature female individual belonging to either the 7th or 8th century A. D. The metrical and morphological analysis of the skull produced definite evidence of typical scaphocephalic characteristics, other skeletal malformations and tissue anomalis could not be observed. The morphogenesis of this skull anomaly is as yet not finally determined. It appears certain, however, that the deformation is not only due, if at all, to such mechanical factors as the premature synostosis of the sagittal suture.
