Abstract

An apparent lack of systematic anthropometric investigation into industrial workers - at least in Scandinavia - prompted an anthropometrical study of a selected group of men and women aged from 25 to 49 years. The series comprises 87 men and 77 women, all of them Swedish citizens, with the majority born in Gothenburg or in the neighbouring counties. The measurements were carried out ad modum Martin (1928). The results are given in tabular form with textual comments. The tables show the results of the statistical processing of the data, which involved calculating the means and S.D. for various body-measurements, as well as the analysis of the relationship between different body-dimensions. Comparisons are made between men and women, and between adult and mature groups of both sexes. The existing differences underline the necessity of considering all of these groups when measurements assigned for sizing working-space and equipment are being made.
