Meteorological Calendar 2026 - Wind - its manifestations and measurement
We perceive wind as pleasant when a gentle breeze cools us on a hot summer day. But wind can also cause fear, terror and severe devastation when it sweeps across the land with hurricane force. In this calendar, we present the wide variety of manifestations and effects of wind.
Wind needs to be measured as accurately as possible both to address scientific questions and for practical applications (e.g. aviation wind information). On the reverse sides of the monthly calendar pages, we introduce the most important methods currently used for measuring wind speed and direction.
You may clearly see the updraught and downdraught zones as cumulus clouds form (and dissipate). One may also come across a dust devil on a walk, which even in is smallest form shows how turbulent the atmosphere near the ground can be. You can also read about country breezes and why they are actually much more important for urban areas than for the countryside.
The photos on the front calendar pages show the effects of wind and visually complement the calendar texts.
They invite you to contemplate, linger and reflect.
The Meteorological Calendar 2026 is available both as a wall calendar and as a postcard calender with a desktop stand.
