In the present work, all in all 386 woodlands were examined for differences concerning site conditions and species inventory in the Prignitz (North-West Brandenburg) between 1995 and 2000. The woodlands are deciduous and mixed woodlands with an average size of 13 hectare. They range from beech-oak and oak- pine woods with only few species on sites poor in nutrients and being far-off from groundwater to oak-hornbeam and alder-ash-tree woods on nutrient rich sites with groundwater influence.
The examinations were supposed to find out, if differently long existing woodlands are tied to a particular site and/or vary within the site spectrum and in how far differences in the species inventory derive from that. Above, the question was put, in how far differences in the species composition can be explained by the help of function types (life form, anatomical structure, strategy and dispersal types) and the susceptibility to human disturbance (Hemerobiestufen) of plant species, like pasture and melioration. Furthermore, it was examined, which variables besides the site factors (e.g. woodland continuity, area size, share in semi-natural areas) are relevant to the occurrence of species and/or have an essential influence on the distribution pattern of plant species.
